Our Glen Cove Veterinarians
Sheila R. Delijani, DVM, Owner
While growing up in Great Neck, NY, Dr. Sheila Delijani would volunteer to walk neighborhood dogs for free just so she could spend time in their company. When she was 16, she started volunteering at an animal hospital and never looked back. She pursued a career in veterinary medicine, motivated by what she calls a "love of science and nature, love and respect for all living creatures and the great desire to help them."
Dr. Delijani earned her Bachelor's degree in Sociology and Anthropology from Colgate University, and went on to earn her Master's degree in Biology at Long Island University's C.W. Post Campus. She earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. While there Dr. Delijani received the Small Animal Achievement Award. She also studied acupuncture at the Chi Institute.
For Dr. Delijani, the bond with her clients and their pets is the most rewarding aspect of her profession. In fact, she keeps in touch with clients 10 years after she operated on their dog during the pet's serious illness. "The bond that's formed with the pet and their family and knowing they've entrusted you with a very important member of their family is one of the things I love about being a vet," she says. Dr. Delijani is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the New York Veterinary Medical Society, the Long Island Veterinary Medical Association, the American Association of Feline Practitioners and the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association. Her professional interests include internal medicine, dentistry, soft tissue surgery holistic/integrative medicine, and acupuncture.
At home, Dr. Delijani cares for three pets: Chica and Jigsy, mixed breed siblings from the island of St. Kitts, two turtles, and many fish. Goombah, her Double Yellow Head Amazon parrot, keeps the staff and clients entertained at the hospital by saying things like "I'm a good girl," "Here kitty, kitty, kitty...meow," "What are you doing?", and singing "Oh, what a beautiful morning."
She and her husband Jason Samel have a son named Micah who also loves animals. In her free time Dr. Delijani enjoys music, traveling, scuba diving, movies, the outdoors and spending time with her family.
Alyssa DiGiovanni, DVM
Dr. Alyssa DiGiovanni has been working in an animal-related field since she was around 10 years old. From animal sitting and dog walking for friends and family, Dr. DiGiovanni always knew she would go on to become a professional in this field. As she got older, Dr. DiGiovanni worked as an Animal Control Officer before moving onto becoming a veterinary assistant for the LIVS Rehabilitation Department.
Since receiving her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and joining the team at Green Forest Veterinary Hospital in 2021, Dr. DiGiovanni has gone above and beyond to provide the best health care possible for our clients and their furry family.
“I love working at Green Forest because it’s like a second family,” she shares. “Everyone on the team is great! We all care so much about the animals we help, and we are all devoted to this field and the hospital.”
At home, Dr. DiGiovanni has a fun plethora of pets – two cats (Fred and Sully), one dog (Rudy), one turtle (Racing Stripes), two fish, and two snails. Her dog is also a hard worker, as he joins Dr. DiGiovanni at Green Forest to clock in for his shift! “Dogtor Rudy works hard at the animal hospital every day,” she says.
In her free time, Dr. DiGiovanni loves hiking and kayaking with Rudy. She also loves gardening and making her yard, and home, look beautiful.
