When Care Can't Wait
The veterinarians and medical team at Green Forest Veterinary Hospital understand medical emergencies for a beloved pet can, and often do, happen outside of normal business hours. To best meet all your pet's needs, we work to make sure you have access to the best 24/7 emergency care.
During our regular business hours, Green Forest Veterinary Hospital's medical staff and resources are available to help you with any emergency your pet experiences. This includes our internal medicine expertise, diagnostic technology and surgical suite. If possible, please call in advance so we can prepare for your arrival.
Should your pet experience an emergency after we are closed but before 10pm, you can reach one of our doctors at (516) 676-4838 and they will advise you on the right course of action.
For emergencies that occur when our doctors are unavailable, we refer our clients to the following emergency facility:

Signs Your Dog or Cat Needs Emergency Care
The easiest answer as to whether you should seek emergency care for your pet is when you feel his or her medical condition is serious and cannot wait. However, the following general situations should help you determine if you need to seek emergency care for your pet:
- Difficulty breathing
- Acute abdominal swelling
- Electric shock
- Excessive vomiting or diarrhea
- Bleeding
- Exhibits symptoms of heat stroke
- Seizures
- Sudden onset of weakness
- High or low temperature (more than 104 or less than 100 degrees)
- Unable to urinate or defecate
