Microchipping your PetAvid FriendChip Microchip System

A lost pet is a frightening situation with often devastating consequences. This is why the team at Green Forest Veterinary Hospital considers microchip pet IDs a fundamental way to protect your pet and an important part of responsible pet ownership.

We use the Avid FriendChip microchip system. Each microchip registers the animal with a unique nine-digit identification number, which is filed in a database with your contact information. The contact information can be updated any time, and it is important to remember to do so whenever your information changes. If your pet is lost, the microchip can be scanned by animal control officers, at shelters, and at veterinary hospitals in the U.S. and in many foreign countries.

This safe, reliable and permanent pet identification takes less than 10 seconds to implant and can save you and your pet days, weeks or more of fear and anguish.

Your Veterinary Pharmacy

Our commitment to your pet's health is also reflected in our in-house pharmacy, which is fully stocked with both western conventional medications as well as vitamins and Chinese herbs. When it comes to prescription medications, accuracy in regards to dosage and administration is of the utmost importance. As your pet's prescribing veterinarian, you can trust that when you fill prescriptions at our pharmacy, your pet will receive the right medication, at the right dose, in the right form as quickly as possible. We will also provide you detailed instructions on the medication's use, discuss any possible side-effects or interactions, and even administer the first dose for you if possible — a level of service you won't find outside your veterinarian's office.

Furthermore, when you purchase medications from our pharmacy, you can rest assured your pet's medications were obtained from safe, reliable sources and stored under optimal conditions. We stand behind every product that we dispense. At our veterinary pharmacy we maintain a comprehensive inventory of pharmaceuticals, vitamins, shampoos, flea and tick control products and heartworm preventatives to meet the needs of you and your pet. We also carry Royal Canin prescription pet food.

Refills are easy too — simply give us a call.

House Calls

To provide you the most comprehensive veterinary care possible, our veterinary team also offers house calls on a case-by-case basis. To put it simply: there are times when it is best that you and your pet remain at home, where you both are most relaxed and comfortable, and we come to you.

Services we can provide include wellness examinations, vaccinations, routine medical care, blood draws, and sick visits including examination and preliminary diagnostics. Certainly the most difficult (and the most important) house call we make is when a beloved pet has reached his or her last day. Being at home, surrounded by loving and familiar faces, is a comfort to you and your pet and an important aspect of our veterinary services.

USDA Travel Certificates

Taking your pet with you on an excursion out of the country? Our veterinary team can assist you in your preparations for departure by issuing a USDA Travel Certificate. These certificates are required by border officials in order for your pet to be allowed to travel with you.

While the precise requirements you'll need to fulfill to obtain these certificates will vary depending on what country you're traveling to, the kind of pet you have, your mode of transportation, and other factors, the veterinarians at Green Forest Veterinary Hospital can examine your pet and provide a certificate to be officially endorsed by a USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) Veterinary Services (VS) official veterinarian. We advise you visit the USDA website for more information, and contact us at (516) 676-4838 if you have additional questions.
